08 - The GUI Explained

The GUI (graphical user interface) of Agares Auto-Attendant was designed to be minimalistic and above all, functional.  To that end, you’ll find our interface easy to use.  In this document, I’ll outline each section of the GUI and explain what it is and/or what it does.  In doing this, I will explain each of the 3 main tabs that are located at the bottom of the screen (in the picture below, the tabs that I am talking about are highlighted in red)

THE MENU EDITOR TAB

The first and default tab, here you are able to create new menus, load existing menus, edit them and of course save then.

1. File, Tools, and Help menu bar

The menu bar includes 3 choices, namely File, Tools, and Help.  The File menu is for loading, activating, or saving the current menu file.  The Tools menu will let you changes options or record audio.  Finally, the Help menu will point you the right direction should you have any questions.

2. Skype menu

This “treeview” tool is used to create new auto attendant menus, editing existing ones, or even edit the live menu.  This tool is only available when you are on the “Menu editor” tab.  For more information on using this control, please read the Creating a Menu File tutorial.

3. Menu node parameters

This area of the “Menu editor” tab, displays information and allows editing of values for specific individual menu items.  Here you can setup whether the menu entry transfers the call, plays a specific wav file, as well as add comments regarding the menu node.  For more information on using this control, please read the Creating a Menu File tutorial.

4. Menu Editor, Skype Status, Control tabs

There are 3 tabs at the bottom of Agares Auto-Attendant.  So far, we’ve only be discussing the default tab, which is the “Menu Editor” tab.  However, if you click on a tab, the view will change and you will be presented with additional options and information.  We’ll discuss the next tab immediately.

THE SKYPE STATUS TAB

When you click on the Skype Status tab, you will be able to monitor any activity in real time.  In the “Active Calls” area you will see a list of calls currently in progress.  In the Call Status area, you can see the current menu items information in order to know exactly where the caller is within the menu.  Finally, the Call Log will log all the information regarding the call, allowing you to review the progression of the entire phone call.

THE CONTROL TAB

The Control Tab allows you to start or stop Agares Auto-Attendant.  Before this program can work, the following conditions must all be true:

- Auto-Attendant is active

- Skype is loaded

- Auto-Attendant is attached

- A menu file must be loaded

Using the Control tab you’re able to see if all these conditions have been met, and if not, you’re able to attempt to manually meet the conditions by clicking on the appropriate buttons.  If you need to turn Agares Auto Attendant off, you can do so by clicking on the “Deactivate” button.  To continue using it afterwards, simply push the Activate button.
