Q. What is Skype?

A. Skype provides high quality phone service for very low rates, by using VOIP technology.  In simple terms, it is software that lets you make and receive phone calls from your computer.  Having an active Skype account is required to use Agares Auto-Attendant. If you don’t have Skype you can download the software for free directly from them, as well as make and receive Skype to Skype calls.  However, in order to recieve calls from landlines and cellphones, you will need to purchase a SkypeIn package.  As of this writing (September 2008) those prices are either $18 USD (€ 15 before VAT) for 3 months, or $60 USD (€ 50 before VAT) for 12 months.  You should check Skype’s website for the latest pricing information.

Q. Are you affiliated with Skype in any way, shape, or form?

A. No.  This product uses the Skype API but is not endorsed, certified or otherwise approved in any way by Skype.  We are, however, using their provided API according to their terms of use.  We fully recommend Skype.

Q. How long is my license good for, and how many computers can I use this on?

A. Licenses are good for the life of the product, meaning you will recieve all Agares Auto-Attendant releases, after paying for the license only one time.

Q. Is the 30 day free trial limited in anyway, and do I need to give payment information up front?

A. The 30 day free trial is completely functionally identical to the full version, the only difference is the full version will not bring up the license screen every time you start the program.  No payment information is needed to download the product.  When you’re ready to buy, we’ll use PayPal to complete the transaction.  You can also use debit and credit cards on PayPal.

Q. Can I use audio I’ve recorded in other programs?

A. Yes, you can use any program that outputs .wav files.  This allows you to add any music you would like, or to include commercials or other promotional material. When exporting or saving your wav file for use in Agares Auto Attendant, you must only provide 16-bit, 16kHz mono wav files.  More specifically, Skype requires that all .wav files be 16 bit, 16000hz (16kHz), 1 channel (mono), PCM only.  If you do not need music or other audio effects, using the built in recorder in Agares Auto-Attendant is recommended, since all .wav files are saved in the correct audio format.

Q. Help, I’ve created a menu and I can’t hear any audio.

A. First, make sure all wav files in your menu are 16-bit, 16kHz mono wav files only.  More specifically, Skype requires that all .wav files be 16 bit, 16000hz (16kHz), 1 channel (mono), PCM only, no other .wav file specifications are allowed.  If you are recording directly from within Agares Auto Attendant, using the built in sound recorder you will insure that you are always using the correct format.  Try finding the wav file you’ve recorded and playing it directly in Windows Media Player.  If it plays correctly in Windows Media Player, but not in Agares Auto Attendant, there is one of two main causes: 1) incorrect wav file format, or 2) the path is not properly specified, saved, and loaded into Agares Auto Attendant.  However, if Windows Media Player doesn’t work, then the problem starts with actually setting up your PC to record from your microphone.  If you continue experiencing this even while using the built in sound recorder within Agares Auto Attendant, please check to insure that your microphone is on and recieving a signal.  If its not recieving a signal, verify the microphone is connected to the computer into the correct jack (generally the color pink.)  Next, verify that the microphone is not muted or turned down.
